7th February, 2023 with the theme #TogetherForABetterInternet was a huge success organized by the International Centre for Leadership Development Nigeria Icld Nig with the support of KnowBe4
Participants: 95 Students from Seven six Schools, 50 Teachers 2 Parents, Media and Government Agencies.
The program started by 10:10am, two students led in the singing of the Nigeria national anthem.
A welcome address by Amb Felix Iziomoh, Executive Director of International Center for Leadership Development Nigeria, he hearty welcomed all students and teachers present from different schools within the locality.
The program moderator Adedoyin Adedeji introduce the program of the day emphasizing the importance of a safer internet and it’s importance to our lives.
An opening speech was given by the Executive Director of Icld Nig, he said the aim of the program held every year on the second day of the second week of the second month is to promote a safer use of the internet and in a responsible, respectful, creative and critical manner. He said the program is also held in other parts of the world, in Europe and America.
A short speech was given by Mrs. Rahaman Shakirat the Education District Desk Officer, she also reiterated the importance of a safer internet to our world today.
After her speech, the students were involved in an ice breaker activity to interact with one another, exchanging greetings and getting to know themselves.
Adedoyin Adedeji a computer analyst shared with the participants how they can use the internet productively and in a safer way. He advised that every internet user should be security conscious by protecting their personal information online with strong password. He warned against posting information that may hinder one’s personal growth and progress in the future.
ASP Justina Onyekwere from the Sabo Divisional Police Station spoke to the participants on Cybercrime and its consequences, she narrated how a young boy was arrested recently for defrauding a POS operator of over 800,000 via the internet. She said Cybercrime has created a lot of distrust in people doing business on the internet and that a lot of companies have incurred great losses. She admonished the students to concentrate on their studies and engage in activities that will bring pride to their parents and honor to the nation. The students responded to her presentation with questions in order to deepen their knowledge on the subject matter of the day.
Ibe Chris Chidi – Founder: African Youth Initiative on Crime Prevention narrated a story of a young boy that used the internet to dupe a foreign investor even though he was counselled to take good advantage of the opportunity to do what was right, honorable and for posterity. He further told the participants of true life examples of good use of the internet, which has created a lot of opportunities for him personally and fellow contemporaries. He led the students in making a pledge to be honest and an honorable citizens of their country.
The students were engaged in a quiz competition to educate them more on how to use internet in a safer way.
Certificates was awarded to all participating students as Safer Internet Ambassadors, the essence is for them to go back to their various schools and their respective communities to create awareness on Internet Safety.
All the participants were entertained with refreshments.
