The second edition of the International Center for Leadership Development Nigeria’s Annual Leadership and entrepreneurship conference took place on November 5 2016 at the Bible Guest House Hall, Palmgrove estate Lagos. The title of this year’s conference is – Transforming challenge into opportunity. The conference had in attendance passionate youths from across Lagos state.
The day started with the Nigerian National Anthem by Mrs Mekwuye Olabisi followed by a brief welcome remark from the Executive director of the organization – Mr Felix Iziomoh; declaring the conference open and also welcoming participants to the conference. In his welcome remark, Mr Felix encouraged all participants of this year’s conference to not just learn from the speakers, they should also network and meet fellow participants.
The first speaker of the day was Mrs Treasures Uchegbu, who is the Lead Facilitator Mission 5000 Plus – Life Skills Development Centre. She took the conference participants through the topic – Self Awareness in leadership for social change, challenging them on self-discovery and the need to develop their leadership capacity. Mr Sipasi Ayodele followed with a brief session on business opportunities in agricultural business.
Mr Bobby Ayodele Joseph Managing Director, Funky B& T small chops and foods Limited come up to take the participants through his session titled – Entrepreneurship : Opportunities and challenges in business startup. Mr Bobby took participants through his practical experience from working in the IT department of a company to starting his own food company. He further explained to participants how to overcome startup challenges, packaging, marketing and running a startup business.
Our third speaker for the day was Mrs Nkong Victoria – CEO Qtaby Events, a Multilingual Entertainment Consultant and event producer. Mrs Victoria is a key player in the Nigerian entertainment and creativity industry. With her wealth of experience in this space, she took the conference participants through the topic – The importance of innovation and creativity in our present economy. For Mrs Victoria, starting a business is not enough, you have to be able to innovate, do things differently and deliver premium value to your clients for your business to succeed at this time. She encouraged our participants to learn to go the extra mile to win the trust and respect of their customers; this is one of the sure ways to grow your business.
Our last speaker for the day was Mr Rotimi Arowa – CEO Moore Autoworks and 2807 Digital Print Studio. He spoke on leveraging technology for your business. According to Mr Rotimi, leveraging technology for your business can be one of the biggest game changer for you and your winning edge against your competitors. Leveraging technology for your business isn’t very complex, we already have enough technology around us that we use daily, we just have to learn to use them differently to grow our businesses.
At the end of every section, our participants were given the opportunity to ask our speakers questions. The conference ended with Mr Doyin and Mr Emmanuel introducing our participants to our affiliate organization in USA – The International Institute of Global Leadership (IIGL) and how they can be a part of it.
